The creation of this blog might be one of the unexpected moments of my 2018. Writing, I admit, is not one of my strengths anymore. It was around 2014 when I decided to forget my dream of becoming a writer when I realized writing is really not for me despite my love for it since I was young. The realization and acceptance made me feel light, like a huge burden was removed from my heart. Finally, I am free from the restrains of the frustrations of something I can never have.
Fast forward to July 2018, a co-worker inspired me to create a site, a blog posting site, where I should focus on one niche. I was apprehensive at first but then deep inside me I want to discover my love for writing again and at the same time I want to contribute something using a medium that is well known to spread knowledge and wisdom: Writing.
Maybe I was also inspired by those writers, filipino and foreign, that write so well and inspire, teach, and inform others. Whenever I read their written stuff, something inside me keeps rolling and tossing, and turning, and just want to get out. Maybe it was the writer inside me, the one I buried a long long time ago.
So after planning and thinking hard of what to blog/write I decided my niche would be about the LGBT community.
This community is a big part of who I am, being Bisexual myself. I want to inform a lot of people especially the Filipino people, a part of the community or not, about what this community is about. Admit it or not, a lot of us don’t know our history and the issues and stuff we are fighting for.
The niche was already set so next was the name of the blog site. To be honest it was hard to think of the name. I couldn’t remember how long I keep thinking until I got to ‘Sapphic Life’
Why ‘Sapphic Life’, you ask? First, let’s define what ‘Sapphic’ means. Sapphic came from the word or rather person, Sappho who was a female poet from the island of Lesbos. Basically it refers to women who are sexually or romantically attracted to other women. I like this term because it is not tied down to Lesbian love only since there are other sexualities (bisexual, pansexual, etc) and other women who are not into labels who love women.
I am using Sapphic Life because this is me. I am a Sapphic and I want to share a bit of stuff about my sapphic life and being an LGBT aside from the information and facts and current happenings in our community.
I also want to share the love this community has to each other even those who are against us, hence the “Sharing The Rainbow Love” tagline. I want to share our resiliency, the pride we have despite being looked down upon for being us. I also want this site to be a safe space for LGBT peeps out there, especially the young ones.
And by that, and for the fact that I am now www.sapphiclife.com, I want everyone to know what to expect from my blog from now on:
• Information about LGBT (a given)
• LGBT Book thoughts
• Any LGBT related stuff
• Snippets from my life (My travels, thoughts about stuff, life in general), I would tag personal posts as ‘Sapphic Life Presents’
Please don’t be afraid to interact with me or if you need someone to talk to, I am just a message away.
See you in my future posts!
